Dr. Larry E. Parker was born on June 26, 1942 to the late Thomas Parker and Mary Parker. He was born and raised in Troup County, Georgia where he also began his education. Dr. Parker earned the Bachelors of Arts degree from LaGrange College, a Maters of Education Degree and Specialist in Education Degree from West Georgia College. He then earned his Doctor of Education Degree from Auburn University. While at Auburn University, he was selected to be in Phi Delta Kappa, a professional fraternity in education.
He began his career teaching English at George High School in Atlanta, Georgia where he was awarded with the STAR Teacher award. He later served as an administrator in Troup County and Harris County School System. He retired from the Georgia Department of Education as head of the statewide testing program.
More notably, Larry was a lifetime, active member of The Church of Christ. He loved his church and all his brothers and sisters in Christ. He also loved to read and watch sports, especially his Auburn Tigers.
Mr. Parker is survived by his brothers, Richard Parker (Ann) of Valley, Al, and Billy Parker (Betty) of Huguley, Al; sister, Linda Parker Haynes of West Point, GA; sister-in-law, Faye Parker of Inman, SC; several nieces and nephews; extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Parker, Jr., William Parker, and Benny Parker, Ronald Parker, sisters, Mary Ann Parker Thompson, and Peggy Joyce Parker Harris.
Family will have visitation on Friday, March 19, 2021 at the Higgins Funeral Home at Hunter Allen Myhand from 11:00 – 1:00 PM. Graveside service will begin at 1:30 at Restlawn Memory Gardens with Don Jackson and Larry Thompson officiating. Flowers will be accepted or donations in memory of Dr. Larry Parker to Roper Heights Church of Christ in West Point, GA or Four Oakes Church of Christ in LaGrange, GA.
