So sorry for Debra and Chuck and their children at the loss of Marie then so soon Charles . I was married to a cousin of Charles, James Wiley Cofield, until he passed away in 2004. We lived in Auburn Ga. but when we would come to Lagrange to visit Wiley's parents we would see Charles and Marie a lot of the times Chuck and Debra were small when we saw them. Maybe you would remember us we had one son at that time his name was Kenneth. Anyway we thought the world of all of ya'll. I didn't know until Wiley passed away in 2004 that Charles and Marie lived in Monroe not too far from us. But Marie was sick then and they couldn't make it to Wiley's Funeral. I finally moved back to Lagrange in 2008. So sorry for the loss. I am sending prayers for all. May God watch over all.

None of us can believe that Charles passed just two weeks after Marie's funeral. He looked so good at Marie's funeral, but we all know how sometimes a couple just can't be apart from each other. He and Marie were my favorite cousins. Charles was one of those people who always had a grin on their face; one of those people you read about in Readers' Digest that are true characters. He was always so dapper. I remember him so well always with a cigar! The two of them have always been a part of my life since I was a baby, so it is very hard to think of them not being around any longer. My last time seeing Marie was in the spring last year when I went over to spend the day doing genealogy with her and Charles and to have lunch. We had a grand time! We would have done it this spring too had Covid not happened.

My broken heart and all my love goes out to Debra, Chuck, Michelle, and Logan as well as the rest of our family. Charles and Marie are much loved and will stay in our hearts forever.

I am Charles and Marie’s niece Jan-Marie. Named after Marie. I heard about Marie a few weeks ago and was deeply saddened as my sister Chris and I had planned a trip thru the south this past spring to see everyone before this pandemic hit.
Uncle Charles was my favorite uncle. Even tho since practically birth having given me a nickname that to this day, at 57... my family still calls me. All because he said I had a chicken butt! (Janny Wanny Chicken Fanny).
I will miss them. But I smile when I think of him calling me “janny-wanny” even as an adult. Rest In Peace with your beautiful wife by your side. Say hi to my parents for me. ❤️

I can see my cousin Charles not only giving such a crazy nickname, but I can picture it as well. -Sheila Berry Riggs
