Mr. Bruce Barnett Smith, age 88, of LaGrange, passed away on April 6, 2020 at the WellStar West Georgia Hospice. Mr. Smith was born on September 4, 1931. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1955. He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and served many years as an Accountant. Among his other accomplishments and civic involvement, Mr. Smith was member of the First Presbyterian Church of LaGrange where he served as an Ordained Elder and Deacon. He was President of the Kiwanis Club of the Valley and a long-time member of the Kiwanis Club of LaGrange. He volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and helped senior citizens in Troup County with their tax preparation. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Meghann Smith.

Survivors include his wife, Alice Scarborough Smith; children, Joy Smith (Chuck) Paulson of St. Paul, Minnesota and Barry Smith (Kathy) of LaGrange; grandchildren, Olivia Ellis (Cam) of Thomaston, Kaden Paulson-Smith of Madison, Wisconsin, Matt Barr (Madison) of Smyrna, Hunter Paulson-Smith of Seattle, Washington and Trey Smith of LaGrange; sisters-in-law, Ray Nelle Scarborough (Loyd) of LaGrange and Betty Scarborough Martin of Phenix City, Alabama; brother in law, Bill Scarborough of LaGrange; special friends, Andy and Dixie Kimmey; extended family and friends.

Due to the health crisis in our country, Mr. Smith's remains will be placed in the columbarium at the church with a small private service. A community wide memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of LaGrange, 120 Broad Street, LaGrange, 30240 or Heart of West Georgia, 116 Ford Drive, LaGrange, 30240.
